Ilene Wasserman PhD — Managing Principal ICW Consulting Group Ilene Wasserman Ilene has worked successfully with Fortune 100 companies, hospitals, community healthy centers and mental health institutions as well as institutions of higher education, and community and religious-based groups. Consultations include conducting organizational assessments and designing strategic interventions aimed at achieving high performance, inclusive work cultures. She has worked closely with, and provided coaching to, executives and boards of directors, to design leadership retreats and develop internal work teams. In addition to consulting and coaching Ilene has taught organizational communication, transformative conflict, leading change, emotional intelligence and cultural competence and group dynamics at the graduate level. Ilene received her PhD from the Fielding Graduate Institute in Human and Organizational Development. She also holds Masters degrees both in Counseling Psychology and Social Work from Washington University and a Bachelor degree from Cornell University in Human Development. In addition to her formal education, Ilene is trained in Future Search, Gestalt, and Appreciative Inquiry. She is a charter member of Appreciative Inquiry Consulting Group and has conducted foundational and advanced workshops in Appreciative Inquiry. Her professional affiliations include the American Psychological Association, the Organizational Development Network, The Academy for Human Resource Development and the Academy of Management. Ilene's professional presentations have included: "Leveraging Diversity and Inclusion in Creating High Performing Workplaces", "The Role of White Men in Diversity Culture Change Interventions", "Using Appreciative Inquiry for Process Excellence", "Relational Leadership and Transformative Learning", and "Transformative Learning in the Engagement of Diversity". Ilene is active in her community and serves on a number of community boards. Richard Doran Richard has worked in the areas of organizational development and human resource development fostering culture change both as an internal and external consultant. He has lead human resource departments in companies such as Digital Equipment Corporation and Ben & Jerry's Homemade Inc. and has been an external consultant to corporations including Exxon, Mobil, and Conoco, Hannaford, Wild Oats grocery chains, and United Airlines. Richard has also partnered with a leading turn around specialist in three different companies. He supported profitability and growth as he designed and led organizational assessments, consultation and reorganization with senior management teams, and the design and implementation of new organizational structures. Some of Richard's particular areas of expertise lie in the areas of conflict management and diversity. He has a unique capacity to bring together people who might otherwise be unlikely pairs. He has partnered with unions at many companies to bring about collaboration for change for all levels within the organization. Richard has provided consultation to high-level political persons in a number of different cities and states regarding diversity issues and has also designed and delivered diversity awareness programs to colleges, universities, non-profit organizations, religious organizations, police departments and financial institutions. Richard takes pride in being able to work with all levels in the organization. He brings all of himself to his work and helps create an environment where all employees feel valued and motivated to come to work. Bernardo M. Ferdman As a consultant, Bernardo has worked with a variety of organizations to improve performance and leadership, focusing on assessment and training in the context of diversity. He has focused on assessments, leadership team development, executive coaching, and organizational optimization in multiple regions of the world including the United States Spain, Italy, and Brazil. Bernardo has also designed training and worked with managers to support their professional and leadership development and has worked with organizations to develop Latino and Latina leaders as well as other leaders of color in both corporate and non-profit settings. Bernardo has published over four dozen articles, book chapters, and books, and made more than 100 presentations at professional conferences in the areas of ethnic, cultural, and gender diversity; diversity and inclusion in organizations; Latino/a identity; and organizational psychology. His recent research focuses on the antecedents, correlates and consequences of the experience of inclusion, using the Workplace Inclusion Scale that he developed with his students. Bernardo has held many leadership positions in professional and community associations. He received his Ph.D. in Psychology from Yale University, and his undergraduate degree at Princeton University. Bernardo is a native Spanish speaker and has a working knowledge of French and Hebrew. Placida Gallegos In addition to her consulting work with ICW Consulting Group, Dr. Gallegos serves on the faculty of the School of Human and Organization Development within Fielding Graduate University. There she offers seminars, consults with graduate students and supervises research projects that range from human development, organizational inclusion to global initiatives designed to impact under-resourced segments of the population. She also conducts research and has widely published on the impact of diversity on teams, Intercultural competence and leadership development especially as these issues relate to Hispanics/Latinas/Latinos in organizations. Placida earned a Masters of Science degree in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling from Loma Linda University in 1981, a Masters of Arts degree in Social and Personality Psychology and a doctorate of philosophy degree from the University of California at Riverside in 1987. Her dissertation research was conducted in a large telecommunications organization where she compared leadership abilities, management skills and group differences among a diverse group of managers. She is currently conducting an extensive nation-wide study of Hispanic women/Latinas considering their career development strategies and organizational factors that help or hinder their success. Kathy E. Kram She is currently exploring the nature of peer coaching and mentoring circles as part of her ongoing program of research on relational learning, adult development and leadership development. All of her research is aimed at enhancing leadership effectiveness and quality of work life. She is a founding member of the Center for Research on Emotional Intelligence in Organizations (CREIO). During 2000-2001, she served as a visiting scholar at the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) during which time she worked on a study of executive coaching and its role in developing emotional competence in leaders. She served as as a member of the Center's Board of Governors from 2002-2009. Professor Kram teaches undergraduate, MBA and Executive MBA courses in Global Management, Leadership, Team Dynamics, and Organizational Change. She is currently serving as Faculty Director of the MBA Portfolio Program. She consults with private and public sector organizations on a variety human resource management concerns. She received her B.S. and M.S. degrees from M.I.T. Sloan School of Management, and a Ph.D. from Yale University. Dr. Terrence E. Maltbia Other positions held at Westvaco include Director, Corporate Development and Training; Special Assistant to the Executive Vice President; Organizational Development Consultant; Sales Training and Development Manager; Field Sales Manager; College Relations and Corporate Employment Manager; and Employment Representative. He began his career with Westvaco directly out of college in industrial sales. Terry has also held consulting positions with The Alexander Group, Delta Consulting and Rath & Strong Management Consultants. Sample clients include Bowne & Co., Colgate Palmolive, City of Toledo, Oakland University, Grand Valley State University, Pfizer, PSEG, State of Michigan and State of Ohio.
Academic Background Terry teaches research and strategic learning courses for the Department of Organization and Leadership, Teachers College, Columbia University. Dr. Maltbia is an Academy of Human Resource Development's Malcolm S. Knowles Dissertation of the Year Award Recipient 2001 and received a Cutting Edge Award from the Academy in 2004 for his research in diversity. He is a member of Kappa Chapter, Kappa Delta, Pi (An International Honor Society in Education). Terry brings a proven ability to design, develop and implement organizational change and results-oriented learning processes to support the effective execution of business strategy to his consulting engagements. He is skilled at facilitating individual, group and organizational learning and change processes in global and work environments from small to large. Michael Shay Mike is a recognized expert on issues related to high performance work systems, total quality, conflict resolution, contract negotiations, joint improvement processes, and the development of strategic plans for businesses and organizations. In addition to his consulting experience, Mike has spent thousands of hours in grievance handling, arbitration, National Labor Relations Board cases, and contract negotiations. Mike's approach to consulting is firmly rooted in his experience as a shop floor worker, union steward, local union president, supervisor, and Central Jersey Director for the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union. He has spoken and written extensively about his work and has given several international presentations. Mike holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Dayton, and has done extensive graduate course work in Human Resource Management. Andrea Zintz As Vice President of Human Resources and Management Board member of the Johnson & Johnson subsidiary, Ortho Biotech, Inc., Andrea helped lead the growth of the company from $40 million to $500 million in a 6-year period, and launched 2 breakthrough biotech products that lead the market today. She also led executive leadership development for North America from Corporate. During her tenure at J&J she was highly awarded for her work in cultural and particularly HR and leadership development, where her special interests included executive women advancement, diversity, and mentoring. She has been trained as a Black Belt at part of the J&J Process Excellence effort and is an examiner and team leader for the Competitive Assessment Process at J&J. She is also a recipient of the YWCA Tribute to Women in Industry Award. Andrea currently works primarily with senior leaders and business units of Fortune 500 and multi-national corporations to develop change and human development strategies that foster innovation. At the heart of all her work is QuestionThinking(TM) - an inquiry methodology for expanding perspective, increasing creativity and emotional intelligence, and ultimately, helping people to access their best thinking.
