Kathy E. Kram is the R.C. Shipley Professor in Management Emerita at Boston University. Her primary interests are in the areas of adult development, relational learning, mentoring and developmental networks, gender and leadership development, and individual life transitions In each of these areas of interest she has pursued the dual agenda of developing new knowledge and making it relevant to individuals, groups and organizations in corporate, educational, governmental, and healthcare sectors. She received her B.S. from MIT, her M.S. in Management from MIT Sloan School of Management, and her M.A. and PhD in Organizational Psychology at Yale University.

In addition to her book, Mentoring at Work (1985), she has co-authored (with Wendy Murphy), Strategic Relationships at Work: Creating your Circle of Mentors, Sponsors and Peers for Success in Business and Life (2014); coauthored (with Polly Parker, Douglas T. Hall and Ilene Wasserman) Peer Coaching at Work: Principles and Practices (2017), and co-edited (with Belle Ragins), The Handbook of Mentoring at Work: Theory, Research and Practice (2007). In addition, she has published in academic and practitioner journals. She is a founding member of the Center for Research on Emotional Intelligence in Organizations (CREIO). From 2002-2009 she served as a member of the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) Board of Governors. She regularly consults with individuals and organizations in partnership with ICW Consulting.

Her most recent book (co-authored with Teresa Amablile, Douglas T. Hall, Lotte Bailyn, and Marcy Crary) Retiring: Creating a life that works for you
documents the personal stories told by individuals from three different corporate settings of their transitions in to retirement. This book offers a comprehensive understanding of the work involved in the decision to retire from fulltime employment and a practical guide on how to navigate this major life transition.
